Job purpose
 
The Business Development Coordinator of The Chamber, Inc. is responsible for driving new membership and promoting the chamber in the southwest region of our service area to increase engagement and retention rates.
 
Duties and responsibilities
 
  • Actively identify and engage with potential members in the community, promoting the benefits and opportunities offered by the Chamber of Commerce.
  • Develop and maintain a prospect list and implement strategies to convert prospects into members.
  • Monitor member satisfaction and collaborate with the Director to address any concerns, ensuring a high retention rate.
  • Work closely with the Director, providing leads and support for closing membership sales and conducting follow-ups.
  • Utilize the $200 monthly stipend to attend relevant community events, representing the Chamber of Commerce and networking with potential members.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Chamber at events, highlighting the benefits of membership and encouraging prospective members to join.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the community, including business owners, local government representatives, and community leaders.
  • Collaborate with the Chamber's marketing team (i.e. the director) to create and distribute promotional materials showcasing the benefits of Chamber membership.
  • Utilize social media platforms and other communication channels to engage with the community and generate interest in Chamber events and initiatives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Chamber programs, services, and events to promote them to prospective members effectively. Work with Director, Associate Director and coordinator to make these programs successful will be required in this role. 
  • Regularly report membership growth, retention rates, and other relevant metrics to the Director.
  • Continuously review and evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment and retention strategies, making recommendations for improvements when necessary.
  • Attend and participate in Chamber meetings, providing updates on membership recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
 
Qualifications include:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse individuals and organizations.
  • Self-motivated and results-driven, with a demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve targets.
  • Previous experience in sales, marketing, or a related field, preferably in a membership-driven organization preferred.
  • Familiarity with the local business community and the ability to establish and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Proficiency in the use of social media platforms and other digital marketing tools.
  • Ability to work well with others an absolute must to be successful with this role.
  • Strong knowledge of ChamberMaster software a plus. Training will be provided.
Working conditions
 
  • Have designated hours in the Sussex civic center office a minimum of 3 days a week during normal chamber hours to develop and establish a relationship with the village, and provide an anchor in the southwest region to the Chamber of commerce as well attend events as necessary & able which could mean some evening or weekends to foster relationships. This job is flexible to an extent and we will work around your schedule as long as for the most part, hours remain consistent.
  • Note: Some Chamber special events and programs occur outside of normal business hours. Therefore, additional work hours will be required at these times.
  • Below is a list of events that the business development coordinator will be Required attend. All are Monday-Friday
    • Attend monthly Business after 5 – the BDC will need to work with businesses to plan at least 2 in southwest region

    • Leadership Lunches (Mar/Nov)
    • Chamber Shoot  (May)
    • Party in the Park a la Carte (June)
    • Golf Outing (August)
    • MTCE (October)
    • Mingle/Jingle (December)
    • Attend other required, LMF, and/or Chamber events as needed.
    • Ribbon Cuttings & Ground Breakings as able
    • Other events as they arise
                               
Physical requirements
  • The individual must be able to spend most of his/her day walking, sitting, standing and or driving.
  • The individual may travel to off-site locations that may not be barrier-free.
  • The individual must be able to type on a computer keyboard and operate other office equipment.
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds
